Striking South African Residence Offers Amazing Ocean Views and Expansive Interiors

No matter where you live and which part of the globe you are from, a house on a lovely strip of beach that overlooks a sandy beach and mesmerizing waves is something that most of us would love to own. It is no wonder then that prime properties that are close to the ocean have always been in great demand and continue to be so. It is on a piece of sought after property like that on the famous Garden Route in South Africa that SAOTA Architects designed the gorgeous and spellbinding Plett 6541+2 Residence.

The home is an exhibition in modern architecture and design and it does pretty much everything that it can to blend in with its natural surroundings while giving its owners an unabated view of the ocean at all times. The structure seems to exude a certain trademark ‘SAOTA’ feel with its clean and well defined lines, cubic form and the excessive and extravagant use of glass that gives it a transparently brilliant aura.

These characteristics seem to be a common thread that connects all the contemporary residences designed by SAOTA. The large glazed areas, sporadic use of wood that is mostly relegated to the exterior and the patio space, beautiful integration of exteriors with the interiors so as to form one large visual space and ergonomic décor complete the structure. Built among rolling dunes and dense vegetation, the home is put on an elevated platform to ensure that those inside never miss a beat when it comes to what is happening around them.

Bathrooms clad in granite, natural timber shutters and screens, leather finish Neo Sardo Granite flooring and an infinity pool that promises refreshing dips as you enjoy a lovely sunset make this a perfect modern beach house.

Contemporary Apartment in Ukraine With Stylish Furniture & Purple Hues by Eno Getiashvili

When we think of lovely modern apartments that bring in perfectly matched contemporary interiors and sleek décor, most often it is a space that is largely clad in crisp neutral colors and borrows lavishly from the two ends of the color spectrum- black and white. That seems to be the growing trend across the globe and even those generally opting for the brighter and far more vivid shades ensure that they stay confined to the walls of the bedrooms. But that is definitely not the case with this brilliant and bubbly apartments pace that we have stumbled upon in Odessa, the fifth largest city in Ukraine.

The lovely 1,184 square foot apartment space was designed by Eno Getiashvili and if you have just laid upon the current revamped version in its purple and violet shades, then it would indeed be difficult for you to believe that this was once a cluttered space with very little organization. The transformation is indeed a treat for the sore eyes as it employs both out-of-the-box designs with existing design principles to create a unique and appealing home that we would all be glad to call our home.

Apart from the dramatic use of color in the living room, the rest of the home still employs a largely white backdrop, but that is tastefully mixed with hues of black, blue and brown for different rooms to create a distinctive look.

The white brick wall design behind the television in the living room and the message of ‘love, joy, success and smile’ being spread around beautifully across the kitchen wall make for a lovely contrast and great conversation starters! Add to it smart lighting and ergonomic furnishings and this Ukrainian apartment is both classy and complete.

Modern Family Home Surrounded by Nature in Mount Eden, New Zealand

A neat and tidy example of residential architecture in Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand, the S house meets the needs of a family of five in a modern frame.

Work of Glamuzina Paterson Architects, the house is a welcome drift from the vast rectangular surfaces of conventional minimalism. The S shaped house meanders through the tropical landscape — adapts to a sloped terrain so gently, allowing for more views than a conventional house plan and for as much contact with nature as possible.

Its complementing gardens display a simple greenery landscaping of reeds, local rocks and wooden sundecks that make the adjacent swimming pool resemble a natural lake. The outer walls are warm and welcoming in a natural wood finish while the black lattices of the upper story protect against the dry sun and bring a minimalistic and rougher accent to the facade.

What makes this home so inviting is the sense of proportion as well as the fluid, non-central circulation, that surprises with a glimpse into the outside vegetation. A more intimate experience of space is achieved through the sloped ceiling of the living and dining rooms. The spacious interior spaces contain minimalistic leather furniture, artwork and designer lamps that bring modern inspiration to this both family and nature-friendly home.
